Adidas Nude
Adidas Nude: Adidas nearly broke the internet when it debuted its new sports bra campaign on social media.
The sportswear company took to Twitter to post an image of 25 different pairs of breasts to solidify the message that no two pairs of breasts are the same to promote its new range of sports bras.
Information
- “We believe that women’s breasts in all shapes and sizes deserve support and comfort,” the company wrote alongside the photo collage.
- Here “that’s why our new range of sports bras contains 43 styles so that everyone can find the right fit for them.”
- Adidas also introduced the #SupportIsEverything hashtag, a nod to the functionality of a sports bra and the broader message that everyone is different and should be celebrated and supported.
- Naturally, the announcement caused a stir on the internet, garnering over 6,200 quoted tweets and 11,600 likes as of Wednesday afternoon.
- Many supported the brand and praised Adidas for taking an assertive stance to normalize and include women’s different body types.
- “As the father of two daughters who play sports, this was long overdue,” one user wrote. “Thank you. Many girls stop playing sports because they can’t find the right fit to feel comfortable.”
- “Fair game to Adidas for this. It is important to represent body diversity,” said another.
- Users on the other side argued that the ad was unnecessary and said they did not want to see
- And when pressed with scrutiny, Adidas doubled down on the message behind the new campaign.
Twitter’s Standards
- Others questioned whether or not the ad was acceptable by Twitter’s standards, noting that users under the age of 18 can access the app.
- According to Twitter policy, the minimum age to have an account on the site is 13 years old.
- “Twitter requires that people using the service be 13 years of age or older,” the company’s website states.
- “Uncertainty, you signed up for an account before age 13 and now meet our minimum age requirement. You can regain access to your account by deleting some data.”
- However, Twitter has a clear policy on what it classifies as “adult content,” which includes “full or partial nudity, including close-ups of the genitals, buttocks, or breasts.”
- These nude images can be posted to a user’s profile if the user adds a “sensitive content” warning, except that the image is posted as “artistic, medical, health, or educational content.”
